2009 SPRING MEETING NOTES |
March meeting was conducted in Columbus. We had 29 people in attendance with several guests
included. Ron Fischer opened the meeting and asked for the following committee reports. Juniors – Julie Shick reported on the events of the juniors. We will have 5 juniors and 1 chaperone attending the Junior Roundup. The belt buckle contest went very well last year, with 16 buckles given away. A deadline this year of September 15 has been set for the County agents to turn in the winners at their county fairs. Please remind anyone you know of this new deadline. Advertising – George Cawfield reported on the 5 ads he has completed since the first of the year. Please contact George if anyone wants some changes or suggestions for ads. Sales – Craig DeBoer reported on the activity of future sales. Superior will have 3 – 4 sales featuring the Red Angus breed, starting in June. Northern plans on having 2 sales featuring our breed in July and August. Not sure about dates for Frontier as of yet. They all said the tags are plus and would highly recommend them. After much discussion the board voted unanimously to have a fall sale featuring Red Angus Females at Midland. It will be held in November or December. Details will be put together by the committee and featured on the website. Tour – Kay Klompien reported on the fun events getting set up for the tour. It will take place on August 29 and 30. They hope to target juniors, with lots of fun for everyone. The hotel and times will be on the website, so be sure to check it out. NILE – Ron Fischer reported on the NILE. The schedule will be the same as last year and we are planning on having the social time back in the barn. Old Business – The non-profit tax exempt status is almost complete and we will hope to have it soon. It was decided to continue with the calendars and we will auction of the months at the end of the meeting. New Business – The members were asked for suggestions how we would like to see our money spent. The discussion on the Agri-Bio center was held. There were several other ideas presented from the floor; scholarships, start a junior futurity, cut back on dues, do not charge for the annual banquet, and more promotion of the association. It was moved and seconded to support the Bio Center at MSU with $10,000. The motion was not carried with 11 against and 10 for. This will be brought to the annual meeting since there was not a quorum present. THANK YOU – Sutherlins, Strawberry Ridge, Sun River, Lake View, Fischers, Laubachs, C-T & Feddes, Redlands, Klompiens and Christensens & Pierce Ranch for purchasing months on the calendar. We have one month left, if someone would like to purchase it for $400.00 just let us know ASAP. ELECTIONS – Anyone interested in becoming involved with our association and would like to serve on the board, we will be electing a President, Vice-President, Secretary-Treasurer, and 1 director at our annual meeting this fall. PLEASE anyone who has suggestion or ideas; feel free to call one of us. We are always open to new ideas. We are here to promote MONTANA RED ANGUS ASSOCIATION. |
